Background
Arrow Senior Living has proven themselves to be a standout brand in the assisted living industry. What truly sets Arrow Senior Living apart is not just its ability to scale, but the secret sauce of this brand is its forward-looking approach in how the company consistently embraces innovation in both resident care and operations. Under CEO Stephanie Harris’ leadership, Arrow Senior Living has invested heavily in technology and care coordination tools to streamline operations, improve caregiver efficiency, and boost resident outcomes resulting in the company consistently being recognized as industry thought leaders.
As the organization continued expanding its multi-state presence, leadership saw an opportunity to leverage accreditation not just as a regulatory milestone, but as a strategic driver of culture, trust, and a competitive advantage.
To execute this vision, Arrow partnered with Achieve Accreditation to launch a full portfolio-wide accreditation initiative and a creative approach that would redefine how senior living organizations experience accreditation.
The Challenge
Arrow sought to prepare every community for Joint Commission Assisted Living Accreditation and Memory Care Certification, both simultaneously –something unprecedented at a national level.
The objectives extended far beyond passing a survey:
Strengthen resident safety and clinical quality
Standardize operations across a diverse portfolio
Improve staff competency, onboarding, and accountability
Deepen trust with residents, families, and health system partners
Build a scalable, sustainable continuous quality improvement culture
This required full cross-portfolio alignment, engagement at all staffing levels, and an approach that would maintain enthusiasm throughout a rigorous readiness process.
Achieve Accreditation’s Creative Solution
Achieve Accreditation introduced a themed enterprise-wide readiness campaign called: “The Cruise Ship Journey to Accreditation”.
This approach brought clarity, excitement, and shared ownership across the organization through three milestone “Ports”:
Port 1: Build the Foundation
Introduced residents, families, and staff to The Joint Commission
Explained the purpose, impact, and expectations of accreditation
Delivered foundational learning on standards and safety
Established shared goals for cultural transformation
Port 2: Engage & Execute
Conducted comprehensive gap analyses
Established interdisciplinary Quality & Safety Steering Committees
Provided structured workflows and hands-on support
Empowered administrators as “captains” and regional leaders as “on-deck inspectors.”
Increased staff engagement and cross-site collaboration
Port 3: Rehearse & Refine
Delivered rigorous mock surveys mirroring real surveyor assessments
Staff completed scenario-based readiness demonstrations
Identified final refinements before accreditation surveys
Significantly boosted confidence and preparedness for both the survey and for permanent culture change

Executive Leadership Perspective
“Accreditation was a natural step for us –it proves our commitment to safety, quality, and excellence. Our residents and their loved ones deserve proof, not promises.”
“When we made accreditation fun, we made it matter. Residents, staff, and families all took pride in the process. That’s what real culture change looks like.”
